for the summer. Now the days are ticking down to a cool 13 before they head BACK to school. This is NOT okay. The girls are excited to start school again, but I like the carefree, warm days of summer. We have had a great summer this year. It started off with Kayti trying out for the competition dance team. We had to wait around for the list of girls that made it before heading out to our vacation to OH. On pins and needles we waited...a shadow in the blacked out studio, a hand peeking out with a printed up list, the list goes up, Kayti shoots from the car to be the first to read it. WHOO HOO!! After only one year of dance, she has made the comp team. Not bad for a girl that had no rhythm to speak of. She sure does now!
Then we were off to OH for our vacation. We decided to bring the dogs and drive. It went well. Better than I had anticipated, that's for sure. We had a blast in OH going to Cedar Point, hanging out with family, seeing some old friends (Hi Ty and Christine, Jen, Alexa and Brody!) and seeing more of OH than I ever thought possible.
There were three times on the trip that were a bit rocky. We had a bit of brake trouble in Cheyenne, WY. Luckily, Sean was able to fix that. Albeit, it was in the pouring rain. My hero! We got to Omaha, NE and got some pretty nasty storms. Now, for those of you that don't realize, Utah doesn't get weather that is too drastic. Even our thunderstorms are pretty mild compared to the east and midwest. Alas, my poor eldest Kayti had a bit of a tough time coping with these storms and the tornado warnings that were posted. She lived just like I promised she would and we made it to OH. On the way home all was going well until we hit IA. This was the night that the flooding had started. Once again, the tornado warnings were all around. Sean and I had to watch the weather very carefully (hard to do this on the sly in a hotel room) to keep Kayti from realizing how close the tornados really were. One good size one touched down the next town over, but she didn't know it until the next morning. Yea us!! Suffice it to say, she still knew that the storms were horrible and really close. It made for an EXTREMELY long night. Once again, I promised her we would be okay...and we were. Mom's must know something...
Back home in July, they girls did Camp Invention and had a blast. Keeli also took swim lessons. (see previous post) Kayti didn't feel like doing them at that time, so she kept me company while Kee was busy splashing around.

Somehow it is now August. I am still trying to figure out how we got here so fast. I signed both girls up for swim lessons this time and they both passed. Kayti passed Level 4 and Keeli passed Level 2. It is amazing that Keeli went from being really hesitant to put her face in the water at the beginning of summer, to going off the high dive by the end. Only one try this time to pass Level 2. Amazing. For all of you that have kids that dislike the water...don't give up hope. Really. Keeli's first soccer practice was last night. Sean has decided not to coach the higher age group because he just doesn't have that experience. He is an assistant coach for her team though and out of the 9 girls on the team, he brought 7 of them with him from his previous team. That just made him shine, let me tell you! I always knew he was good with kids. Kayti has been taking a techniques dance class over the summer and her team practices start the beginning of September.
I have a feeling I am forgetting something, but this should do it for now!
